Nut-Safe Chocolate News!!! Quick, Aldi is selling Kinnerton "Just Chocolate" for a great price. Vegan, gluten-free, nut-allergy friendly

Good morning my Monday Minions,

A short blog this morning as, sadly, I have succumbed to some autumn-related lurgy.  It seems that there are cold and flu bugs everywhere at the moment and it has become impossible to dodge them any longer.

So today there will be no recipe but instead just a little “heads-up” piece of information that one of my lovely readers informed me of over the weekend.

Hopefully by now all of you will have had the chance to read my blog “No Nuts Please, We’re Allergic” (but if you haven’t, it’s a great one, so click here).  In the blog I tell you about the two different manufacturers of nut-safe, allergy friendly (including vegan and gluten free) chocolate in the UK and I also provide a ball park price for each of them.

Thanks to one of my readers, I have been informed that Aldi have started selling the Kinnerton “Just Chocolate” allergy safe bar for 99p!!

Considering the cost of the bar in all the other major retailers, this is a really great price, so well done Aldi for getting some in.  Now I don’t know if this will be a regular stock item however I am sure that if it sells well then it would make sense to maintain it as a regular store item.

I love Aldi and Lidl and have no qualms about shopping in either but one thing that I have always thought is that the choice of foods available for those with dietary requirements or allergies is bare minimum.  Yes you can buy a soya milk substitute but that’s pretty much it.  I personally am not a fan of soya milk but I do use it for cooking or baking but it’s not my first choice in my morning cuppa; I’d much rather have rice milk but that is only available in certain large supermarkets and health food stores.

Over the weekend I contacted Lidl’s head office to ask if they would be willing to a) provide the same Kinnerton chocolate as Aldi and b) extend their range of products for those with either allergies, intolerances of dietary requirements because there really is a huge gap in their product range.

This morning I received the following response:

"We do not currently stock this produce [Kinnerton], however we have forwarded your suggestions to our Buying Department. Suggestions like these help us maintain and improve the variety of products that we offer."

It's a start, I suppose.  All too often I have said that allergy-safe products are ridiculously and unfairly expensive so places like Aldi and Lidl should be taking note and increasing their efforts to produce and distribute these goods at more realistic prices.  I think that everyone should take five minutes and email Aldi and/or Lidl and request that more allergy-friendly goods be stocked.  If everyone does it we can make a change!

Anyway, there you go, Aldi are selling Kinnerton “Just Chocolate”, I therefore recommend going and filling your store cupboards while it’s a great price.

See you in a couple of days (hopefully when I’m feeling better) but until then, hugs.
